Trigger Points

trigger point therapy
Doctors Janet Travell (John F. Kennedy’s physician) and David Simons have studied and documented predictable and repeatable pain patterns caused by tiny knots that develop in a muscle when it is injured, overworked and/or unhealthy. Trigger points usually send their pain (by nerves firing impulses at a rapid speed) to some other part of the body. This is the reason conventional treatment for pain so often fail. It’s a mistake to assume that the problem is at the place that hurts! These pain referrals, in turn, cause new painful “satellite” trigger points, inhibiting proper blood flow, which causes ischemia an often leads to more pain and discomfort. Travell and Simons’ research has shown that trigger points are the primary cause of pain seventy-five percent of the time and are at least a part of nearly every pain problem. Trigger points cause headaches, neck and jaw pain, low back pain, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, etc. NMT addresses Trigger Points.
